Welcome to the event site for the eXXpedition St. Clar-Detroit River Team!
We are one of seven groups that will lead a science boat as part of the eXXpedition Great Lakes 2016, which will be the world’s largest simultaneous sampling event for aquatic plastic debris on August 20th, 2016.
This event aims to bring awareness to the issue of plastic debris pollution and to inform and empower citizens to protect their environment and themselves-while promoting the involvement of girls and women in STEM fields.
In keeping with eXXpedition‘s mission, the lead science boats conducting sampling for this event will be composed of entirely female crew made up of activists, citizen scientists, artists, and other female Great Lakes residents. There will be a lead boat for each Lake in the Great Lakes system: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior, St. Clair-Detroit River, and St. Lawrence.
